Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the fifth official scientific annual ISVH® China meeting which is held in Beijing China on June 22-28, 2010.

Like previous meetings, the scientific program of this 5th annual meeting will continue the tradition of high quality scientific program related to basic and clinical applications of arterial stiffness and cardiovascular prevention. A large portion of the program will be devoted to oral presentations and discussions, but it will also include state-of-the art lectures and workshops.

Vascular health has become a very important issue involved in different areas such as cardiovascular prevention and management of vascular diseases going from vascular genesis to the arterial effects of pharmacological treatment. Recently, the need to assess arterial stiffness, using pulse wave velocity measurements, has been incorporated into the European Guidelines for Hypertension Management. Moreover, results from recent studies are convincing of the need to evaluate arterial stiffness and central blood pressure as a key parameters in order to better understand the arterial hemodynamic and drugs effects. This better understanding of arterial stiffness and central blood pressure is leading to a clearer explanation of disease pathophysiology and will shed light on the mechanisms of vascular drugs activities.

The privilege contribution of number of international speakers and experts coming from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, USA, and Europe will provide a full update on current international research and views in the field of arterial evaluation and its clinical applications.

ISVH is grateful to all the sponsors, the Chinese Minister of Health and Ministry of Civil Affairs, and all the speakers for their support and contribution to this important meeting. On behalf of the organizing committee, I Join the president of ISVH® China, Prof. Hongyu Wang, in giving a warm welcome to the 5th annual ISVH® China week meeting and look forward to the continued growth of ISVH, and to improving Vascular Health in patient’s worldwide
